PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
- The objective
The principal aim of the programme is to prepare highly qualified econometricians able to apply the laws and principles of econometrics to model and investigate the Lithuanian economy as well as to assist to improve the competitiveness of Lithuanian business.
The main goals of the programme:
- To present modern and classical knowledge of econometrics, financial econometrics and mathematical economics.
- To achieve that students be able to use it when solving practical micro econometrical and macro econometrical problems.
- To develop economical intuition.
The most able students will be in a position to continue their studies as doctoral students either in Lithuania or abroad.
- Career opportunities
The Masters in Econometrics are able to work in research centers; governmental economy planning institutions, consulting firms; fiscal sector (pension funds, stock exchanges, insurance companies, commercial banks); the analysis and planning sectors of business enterprises.
- Access to further studies
Successful completion of the programme can be continued by doctoral studies in economics, econometrics or statistics in any European university.
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES
After taking the courses the students should be able to: independently model, estimate and test relationships between economical variables; practically apply basic principles of econometrics when analysing real economical data and forecasting economical parameters; investigate the dynamics of financial markets; create and maintain macroeconomic models; estimate financial risks; professionally operate econometric software; work with economic data bases.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The main form of evaluation is an examination. However, courses units may be evaluated by the pass/fail evaluation as well. Every course unit is concluded with either a written or written-oral examination or pass/fail evaluation. Student's knowledge and general performance during the exam are evaluated using grading scale from 1(very poor) to 10 (excellent) or by pass or fail evaluation in the cases when pass/fail evaluation is foreseen as a final evaluation of the course unit.
SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA
Prerequisites Microeconomics and macroeconomics (at least 4 local credits (6 ECTS credits). Probability theory and statistics (at least 4 local credits (6 ECTS credits) or at least 6 local (9 ECTS) credits of maths subjects). Basics of econometrics (at least 3 local credits (5 ECTS credits)).
The applicants must present:
- Bachelor diploma
- Relevant appendices to the diploma
- Outlines of the basic courses (this concerns only non-Vilnius University graduates).
Decision upon applicant’s admission is made after the interview.
