PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
- The objective
A holder of doctor’s professional qualification possess: adequate knowledge of the sciences on which medicine is based and a good understanding of the scientific methods; sufficient understanding of the structure, functions and behaviour of healthy and sick persons, as well as relations between the state of health and physical and social surroundings of the human being; adequate knowledge of clinical disciplines and practices.
- Career opportunities
A graduate can be employed in commercial structures dealing with medical equipment or pharmaceutical companies, however, for independent medical practice further studies are needed.
- Access to further studies
Access to the third cycle (residency) studies in accordance with the legal acts of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania and the other legal acts of the Republic of Lithuania.
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES
A Medical doctor possesses skills in using main clinical methods, including taking and writing a detailed medical case history, performing physical examination and assessment of mental status, interpretation of patients’ case history results, physical, laboratory and instrumental examination, identification of patients problems, determination of preliminary diagnosis, assessment and treatment plans. He/she also posseses the main clinical skills including basic and advanced life support, venous puncture, as well as scientific research, communication, professional ethics, informational technology skills.

The programme has the following structure.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
There are three State Graduation Exams for the study programme Medicine –Surgery, Internal Medicine, Women’s and Child diseases.
The main form of evaluation is an examination. However, courses units may be evaluated by the pass/fail evaluation as well. Every course unit is concluded with either a written or written-oral examination or pass/fail evaluation. Student's knowledge and general performance during the exam are evaluated using grading scale from 1(very poor) to 10(excellent), or by pass or fail evaluation in the cases when pass/fail evaluation is foreseen as a final evaluation of the course unit.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA
- Applicants should have completed biology and chemistry courses at the secondary education level;
- Completion of either a physics or mathematics course at the secondary education level is an advantage.
- SAT Subject Test in Biology E/M
- Skype interview
Accepted students will be required to study the Lithuanian language, which will be a part of their curriculum.
