Degree studies has three levels: undergraduate (Bachelor), graduate (Master) and postgraduate (Doctoral and Residency). Undergraduate and graduate studies can be combined in integrated studies (eg. Medicine studies).

The official language of instruction at Vilnius University is Lithuanian exept seven Master programmes taught in English and two programmes taught in Russian.

Undergraduate studies usually last four years. After the comletion of the chosen study programme, graduates are awarded a Bachelor‘s degree with the exception of certain areas where they are also granted Professional qualifications. Graduate studies, Master-degree studies or Professional studies last from one a half to two years. Graduates of Master studies are awarded a Master degree.

Studies in the fields of Law, Medicine and Odontology embrance both undergraduate and graduate studies. The residency and postgraduate studies enables gaduates in Medicine and Odontologyto acquire the higher qualification of a specialized medical doctor. Doctoral studies are meant to prepare researchers in various scientific fields. These postgraduate studies last four years and are completed after a successful defence of the PhD thesis.
