Professor Artūras Žukauskas was officially inaugurated as the Rector of Vilnius University during the Inauguration Ceremony on 1 April 2015.
The new Rector took the oath of office and promised to take care of the community, facilitate University prosperity, defend its autonomy and academic freedom as well as promote visibility of Vilnius University both – nationally and worldwide.
Following the ancient traditions, Ingrida Šimonytė and Dainora Pociūtė-Abukevičienė, the chairwomen of Council and Senate of the Vilnius University presented the new Rector with the insignia of office: the sceptre, the chain and seal of office, dressed the Rector in the official academic attire.
Her Excellency President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, Rectors of other Lithuanian as well as foreign universities, representatives of the foreign Diplomatic Community and other highly honourable guests participated in the Inauguration ceremony and extended their warmest congratulations to the new Rector Artūras Žukauskas.
Physicist Artūras Žukauskas – Member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Lithuanian Science Award winner, winner of Povilas Brazdžiūnas Prize established by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, National Progress Award winner. Professor Artūras Žukauskas is the author of a monograph, text-book, he accounts for over 260 articles in scientific journals, owns and shares seven patents.
