Individualised (IND) Study Subjects (Modules)
Individualized Studies are a part of the curriculum that students independently select from their second semester or later (based on their main study programme). Individualised Studies consist of subjects from their main study program, other study programs, Minor Studies, additional competency studies, 20+ language courses, General University Studies, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Individualised Study Subjects are available only for students of Undergraduate and Integrated Study programmes. It is recommended to select Individualized studies subjects responsibly, taking into consideration one's knowledge and abilities. Some subjects will be available for all Vilnius University students to choose, while others may have prerequisites.

Registration for Individualised Study Subjects (Modules)
The enrolment to Individualised Study Subjects (Modules) for the spring semester will start on December 8th, and continue until December 14th. Additional registration will take place during the first two weeks of February.
The enrolment to Individualised Study Subjects (Modules) for the autumn semester will start on May 8th, and continue until May 14th. Additional registration will take place during the first two weeks of September.
Enrolment for Individualised Study Subjects (Modules) is available via eStudent environment. Select Enrollement -> Course Units (Modules) of Individual Studies.
Please note, if no Individualised Study Subjects (Modules) are selected, then a Student is required to register for General University Studies (GUS) or Elective Study Course Units (based on the main study programme). If no subjects are selected, then a student debt is recorded.
Schedule
Students are responsible for ensuring that the timetable for Individualized Studies' subjects does not clash with their main study program schedule. If there are any overlapping subjects, students will be required to either select Individualized Study subjects in the following semester or change the course group of their main study program (if such an option is available). General University Studies (GUS) Course Units
General University Studies are a part of individualised studies course units (modules) or can be selected separately (based on the main study programme). GUS covers various topics directed towards the development of general knowledge in a certain study field in all Undergraduate and Integrated study programmes at Vilnius University.
The purpose of General University Studies course units (modules) is to develop active, creative, open-minded, tolerant, broad-minded and responsible members of their own country and of modern society, who understand the achievements of the past, the problems of the modern world and the possible prospects for the future.
GUS course units (modules) in the Curriculum
All the subjects included in the study programme are published in the study programme curriculum plan. After logging in to the eStudent environment, you should select Curriculum in the Studies menu module.
The GUS course units (modules) are only available in the undergraduate (bachelor's degree) and integrated study programmes.
Enrollment to GUS course units (modules)
If the GUS course units (modules) are scheduled in the autumn semester, the enrolment starts on the 3 of May and runs until 14 May. Additional registration takes place in the first two weeks of September.
If the GUS course units (modules) are scheduled in the spring semester, the enrolment starts on the 3 of December and runs until the 14 of December. Additional registration takes place in the first two weeks of February.

Schedule and Examination
Classes are held only on Thursdays and Fridays from 15:00. The exact time of the class is announced during the registration for GUS subjects (modules).
The final assessments in GUS course units (modules) do not have to coincide with final assessments in other subjects (modules), so the dates of examinations in GUS course units (modules) are fixed in advance. There are no examinations for other subjects on those days. The exact time of the GUS final assessment shall be agreed with the students by the lecturer of the GUS course units (modules).

Optional (Elective) Study Course Units
The University classifies course units (modules) into compulsory and optional subjects according to the type of choice. Optional course units (modules) provide general university education and essentially complement the education of the chosen major and (or) minor field of study (branch).
Elective course units (modules) are chosen from a provided list in the study programme curriculum or as a part of Individualised Studies Subjects. A student who is not pursuing a more advanced specialisation in his/her major field of study or a double degree may choose elective course units (modules) from among all general university subjects offered at the University in accordance with the procedures laid down.
Electives may be taken in the semesters in which they are included in the study curriculum. The study curriculum specifies the amount of credits for the each elective subject.
Registration for elective course units (modules). At the end of a semester, students must enrol for the following semester's elective course units (modules). The selection must be made using the eStudent environment, which offers automated options.
If the Elective Study Course Units course are scheduled in the autumn semester, the enrolment starts on the 8 of May and runs until 14 May. Additional registration takes place in the first two weeks of September.

First-year students have to register for elective course units (modules) within the first two weeks of the first semester.

Non-Curriculum Course Units (Foreign Language Courses)
Registration for language courses takes place on the eStudent environment (in the Foreign Languages section) or can be selected as a part of Individualised Study Subjects (Modules). Information on possible language learning levels and schedules can be found here. Vilnius University students of Undergraduate and Integrated study programmes can additionally study the chosen foreign language and thus expand their knowledge accumulated at the University.

Information on the non-curriculum course units (foreign language courses) is included in the diploma supplement and, if necessary, a certificate is issued.
Courses at Partner Institutions
Vilnius University cooperates with the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) and Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts (VDA) and offers Vilnius University students to choose elective course units from the list of subjects, offered by LMTA and VDA. In order to enrol for elective course units, offered by another higher education institution, a student should agree his/her choice with the chairman of the Study Programme Committee before starting the enrolment.
