STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

 Paulius GeologyPaulius Aleksa, Graduate from Lithuania:

“I decided to study geology with desire to know the unknown. At the time I had no clue where and what I will do after studies. While studying geology I received not only knowledge but the desire to learn and seek answers. I felt that I am part of that small community of geologists and this was influenced by professors and lecturers who accepted me and helped to change and to become a true naturalist. Studies help the formation of a new view to the earth. You begin to understand how earth is functioning and how closely some processes are connected even it does not look like this from the first glance. Textbooks were important but it was only one side of a coin. The second was practical fieldworks. Understanding how to collect and later analyse field material is paramount. Besides it was a lot of fun as well.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

Light Engineering testimonialMarijus Ambrozas, student from Lithuania, Member of Vilnius University Students' Representation

“This programme is really promising for both students and employers because of the wide diversity of skills it provides. It is nice that the programme allows the students to choose between the going deeper into one of specific optoelectronics field or gaining wider, but more basic all-around knowledge. The combination of practice and theory opens ways for both scientific and engineering work.

The perspectives are high because Lithuania has a great light technology industry (especially lasers). The shorter duration of studies with the fact that there are no close alternatives of bachelor study programmes in the nearest regions allows students to get the work faster. The organisers of the study programme are motivating students to intern in industrial companies and write their thesis there, so there is a strong possibility that students will start working even before the completion the studies and this is exactly what most of the students want.”

How is student selection organized?

Students can choose up to three partner universities and they list them in order of priority. If the student is selected to go to the first site on the Application Form, placement to other two sites is not considered. Students may choose 2-3 universities in the Application Form, but they should write one Motivation Letter for the selection committee where all three choices might be briefly discussed. Selection results are announced during 5 work days from the indicated deadline by email. All students who submitted Application Forms are informed about the selection results. Those students who are selected to participate in the exchange are given further instructions on how to apply to one particular site. Once selection results are announced, changes in the site request cannot be made. It is important to note that final acceptance decision is made by Host University.

Stage II. Document Submission.

Selected students get the information about the application procedure at their site by email. It is very helpful if students have already revised application procedure and know what documents/language tests are required because they usually have very little time to prepare final document package for the Host University once the selection results are announced. Passport is always necessary, so please make sure you have it.

Stage III. Letter of Acceptance Received.

The student must read the package carefully and submit all additional documents that Host University may request. Having received Letter of Acceptance, the students have to fill in the "Request Form for Studies Abroad", get all the signatures and leave the document at the Faculty.

F.A.Q.

It is a list of courses you have followed at Vilnius University. It is prepared at the Dean's Office at the Faculty in English.

Back to the top

 ERASMUS+ students selection procedure

The application round takes place twice per academic year:
in February – for autumn semester or full academic year;
in September - for spring semester.

Call for proposals and the exact dates are published in the News section of the International Programmes and Relations Office.
Students interested in applying for the program should:

  • select one or two partner universities where they  really would like to go (List of Erasmus partners);
  • check the languages requirements;
  • write a motivation letter (up to 500 words);
  • fill in an electronic registration form.

After online registration is closed, the selection procedure is carried out in the faculties. The Faculty coordinators select Erasmus+ participants applying faculty selection criteria. The selection procedure takes one - two weeks.

The selection results are published in the News section no later than 2 weeks after the online registration is closed.

ATTENTION!
All degree students from Vilnius University can participate in Erasmus + programme, but the policy of the university is not to select students for studies abroad in the last semester of the graduation year. The main reason is the tight timeline of finishing Erasmus+ studies before the defence of you’re the thesis.  In most cases there are no possibilities to get Transcript of records from the host university till the end of semester at Vilnius University.

Back to the top

 Main criteria for selection of Erasmus+ students:

  • proposed study programme at the host institution which can be accepted and recognised as part of the programme at Vilnius university.
  • Clear /explicit and reasonable motivation
  • Good knowledge of the language of instruction at host university
  • Your grade average (of the two lasts semesters) is no less 8

Each faculty determines the order of priority of the selection criteria listed below and can use additional criteria.

 Erasmus+ grants

Students may be awarded  Erasmus+ EU grant to help covering travel and subsistence costs incurred in connection with their study period abroad. Erasmus+ grants are from 300 till 500 euro per month.

Group number Country Grant for study EUR/month
1  Denmark, Ireland, France, Italy, Austria, Finland, Sweden, UK, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland* 500
2 Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Iceland, Turkey 400
3 Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Macedonia 300

 *The grant in Switzerland is : 420 CHF /month (~ 348 Eur /month) – covered by Swiss partner, after  arrival, the rest of the money (~ 152 Eur/month) will be paid by Vilnius university.

ATTENTION!

  •  Erasmus grant is only partial funding and it is not enough to cover all living expenses in some countries. It is very important to have additional amount of money before Erasmus studies for your additional costs: tickets, insurance, accommodation deposit (it can be for 4-5 months) and other academic and personal needs.
  • The payment of any national grant or loan to outgoing students should be maintained during the study period abroad, except ERASMUS MUNDUS grant (you cannot get double ERASMUS scholarship).
  • Limited number grants are available, but Erasmus+ students - whether or not they receive an Erasmus+ EU grant - are exempted from paying tuition fees, as well as do not have to cover costs for registration, examination access to laboratory, and library facilities at the host institution

The grant is paid twice:
the first payment (80 % ) is not earlier than one week before departure, the second – after the completion of the mobility period.

The Erasmus grant does not fully cover the cost of living, so we recommend for all outgoing students to have additional funds.

There is a possibility to go for Erasmus+ studies with a “zero” grant.  In this case the Erasmus+ grant is not paid, but the students enjoy all the ERASMUS student rights. "Zero” mobility costs can be funded from private foundations, parents, other family members, employers' funds.
