52406684298 a907e50dac kWe choose our studies not based on grades, but based on what we would like to do in the future. However, one could easily get lost among the multitude of choices, therefore, one of the best ways to find out which study programmes you will enjoy and will suit you, and which will not, is to test-drive the Vilnius University (VU) student seat on 24-28 October, in person and remotely.

“I am very much looking forward to this event so that I can test my wishes and capabilities. I know for sure that I will not be the only one to participate, many of my classmates are coming as well,” asserted Augustė Kirkliauskaitė, a student of IVC class at Vilnius Lyceum.

Opportunity to familiarise with the study environment

Events such as "Student for a Day" are a great opportunity to meet your future lecturers, get to know them a little and ask any kind of questions, as well as to get to know the university and its classrooms.

Goda Žvirblytė, Head of the Student Services Subdivision at VU, said that when choosing future studies, you should not make a decision just by looking at the name of the study programme, but first of all, review the study programme plan and use VU's initiatives, such as "Student for a Day".

“During this event, school pupils get to know the university life as it is and for a short while become fully integrated into the community – without embellishments and first-hand. They can explore every detail, from the content of the lecture they are interested into the corridors of the faculty. After each lecture, ask yourself questions about how you feel about it, whether you would like to hear more lectures on this subject, etc.,” said the manager.

Large choice of lectures

What kind of society will we live in in the future: robots or humans? What is university mathematics? How do technology and pop culture help to teach and learn a language? History of US culture, data-driven social work – during the event, one can attend more than 250 lectures held in 15 faculties alongside current VU students. How to choose the right lectures among such an abundance of choices?

“My advice to students would be the following – choose your studies not based on grades, but based on what you would like to do in the future. So don’t be afraid to experiment and attend lectures in various fields, because "Student for a Day" is a unique opportunity to see a lot of university life in a relatively short time, to imagine how you would do as a student of a particular study programme. This will not only help you outline your future goals, but also to get to know yourself. So be brave and open-minded”, advised G. Žvirblytė.

In addition, not only a bench test in a class room or a real lecture at the university, but also a meeting with students who will share stories and answers to questions about studies and opportunities can help to make a decision. Therefore, at this event, you will have an opportunity to become a real VU student even if only for a little while and take part in real VU lectures given by real lecturers, and ask any questions.

This year VU invites to attend lectures held in Lithuanian and English. Lectures will be held at Vilnius Faculty, Kaunas Faculty and Šiauliai Academy.
