About the Press

True to its academic publishing traditions that extend as far back as 1575, Vilnius University Press consistently publishes scientific, informational, representational, and popular science books, study literature, scholarly journals, and doctoral theses. Vilnius University Press is a leader among academic publishing houses in Lithuania, where it ranks in the top ten of all Lithuanian publishing houses (including the commercial companies) based on published titles, and across the Baltic States.

The Press annually publishes about 50 titles, 60 volumes of scholarly periodicals, and 150 dissertations, and it is one of the largest publishers of scholarly periodicals across the Baltic States. Papers written by scientists from various countries (around 35% of our authors are attached to foreign universities) are published in 33 distinct, peer-reviewed periodical and continuous scholarly journals (which can be accessed at journals.vu.lt).

All books and scientific papers published by Vilnius University Press are peer-reviewed. We support ethical publishing principles, and we operate on the basis of guidelines published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Our editors, authors, and peers are subject to these guidelines. 

Vilnius University Press is included in the list of Clarivate Web of Science publishers.

doajMost of the scholarly journals published by Vilnius University Press have been awarded the highest openness rating in the DOAJ database - DOAJ Seal. Šis įvertinimas skiriamas žurnalams, kurie laikosi išskirtinės geriausios atvirosios prieigos praktikos. The DOAJ Seal is awarded to journals that demonstrate best practice in open access publishing.

We are Crossref members and submit the metadata of our published materials to the largest open access database of scientific metadata; thus, we ensure that information is disseminated across all other databases that are part of the Crossref network. Our Press participates in the activities of various national and international associations: the Association of European University Presses (AEUP), Lithuanian Publishers Association (LLA), Lithuanian Academic Publishers Association (LALA), and the Association of Lithuanian Serials (LMPA). Books written by our authors are presented at the Book Fairs of Vilnius, Frankfurt, and London. Since 2019, Vilnius University Press has been awarding its authors according to two publishing categories: Most Read Book of Vilnius University Press and Most Read Scholarly Periodical of Vilnius University Press.
