The 37th International Biology Olympiad
From 12 to 19 July, Vilnius will host the International Biology Olympiad for the first time in Lithuania's history. The 37th edition of the Olympiad is expected to bring together up to 600 participants from more than 80 countries, making it the largest event of its kind ever held in Lithuania. More than 200 volunteers from Lithuania and abroad will support the organisation of the event.
The Olympiad is organised by the Lithuanian Non-Formal Education Agency (LINEŠA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania and Vilnius University (VU). The Olympiad tasks – covering molecular biology and biochemistry, animal physiology, plant computational biology, and animal anatomy and morphology – are developed and academically validated by a team of VU experts in consultation with international advisers who have extensive experience in preparing Olympiad tasks.
The Olympiad will offer participants not only the opportunity to test their knowledge and practical skills in biology, but also to discover Lithuania's culture and build international friendships. Alongside the competition, students will take part in a range of social and cultural activities in Vilnius, an educational excursion to Trakai, and other events designed to encourage interaction and cultural exchange.
