Guide for Doctoral Students
Are you starting doctoral studies at Vilnius University soon? This page outlines the first steps you need to take before starting your doctoral studies.
Vilnius University Identity Management System and Information System
1. Register in the Vilnius University Identity Management System
- When registering in the Identity Management System, you will need to provide your Lithuanian Student Identity Card (LSIC) number. If you do not yet have a physical LSIC, please contact the Doctoral and Postdoctoral Studies department (drs@cr.vu.lt) 2 weeks prior to the start of your doctoral studies.
- In the Identity Management System, you will be assigned an username* and will need to create a password**.
- Upon registering in the Identity Management System, you will be granted access to Vilnius University email account*** and other University eServices.
2. Log in to the Vilnius University Information System
- Via the Vilnius University Information System (VUSIS) you will log in to your personal student account.
*This username (a seven-digit numeric combination) is used to access other Vilnius University eServices, with the exception of email.
**The same password is used to access all Vilnius University eServices, including email.
***University email address: name.surname@unit.stud.vu.lt. This email address is also used to connect to the "eduroam" wireless network.

Registration of Lithuanian bank account
After logging in to the Vilniaus University Information System (VUSIS), register a personal Lithuanian bank account to which your doctoral scholarship will be transferred:
- You can register a Lithuanian bank account by submitting a request (eAPPLICATIONS) regarding the registration of a bank account.
- If you do not have a Lithuanian bank account, please open one before the start of your doctoral studies. If you do not have a Lithuanian bank account by the middle of the first month, the scholarship will accumulate and be paid out once you open and register a Lithuanian bank account.
- The doctoral scholarship is transferred in the middle of each current month.
ATTENTION: if you have previously studied at Vilnius University and received a scholarship, you do not need to register your Lithuanian bank account again.
Lithuanian Student Identity Card (LSIC)
To order a Lithuanian Student Identity Card (LSIC)*, create an account on the LSP website and place an order.
- You can order the LSIC no earlier than 1.5 weeks before the start of your doctoral studies.
- LSIC is produced within 5 -14 working days from the beginning of your order.

*The LSIC is an official document proving student status that grants the right to use student discounts, the Vilnius University Library, and other resources.
