Welcome to Vilnius University: prepare for your exchange
This page gives you the steps, tips, and contacts you need to prepare with confidence for your first semester at VU - whether you’re arriving from across Europe or from around the world.
Students are expected to arrive one to two days prior to the beginning of the semester:
- 25–26 August – for Autumn semester
- 31 January–2 February – for Spring semester
Arrival at the Student Dormitory is possible from 2 February for the spring semester.
If you plan to arrive earlier, please contact the accommodation officer by e-mail at accommodation@vub.lt to check room availability.
If, for any reason, you are unable to arrive in Vilnius during the dates mentioned above, please ensure that you arrive no later than within the first two weeks of the semester, that is:
- until 15 September in Autumn semester
- until 18 February in Spring semester
Arrival checklist
Make sure these steps are completed before arriving to Vilnius University for your first semester.
Letter of Acceptance (LoA): Received from Vilnius University.
If not, email the International Relations Office at incoming@cr.vu.lt
Learning Agreement (LA): Approved.
If not, choose courses on the website and send the completed LA to the International Relations Office as soon as possible (Erasmus+ students).
Passport/ID validity: Document is valid at least 6 months after your planned study end date at VU.
Visa (if required): Entry visa obtained.
Health insurance: Valid in Lithuania for the entire stay.
Mentor contact: You have your mentor’s details.
If you don’t hear from a mentor 2 weeks before departure, email ESN at president@vu.esn.lt and inform your mentor of your arrival date & time.
Accommodation: Confirmation received (VU Student Dormitory or private housing).
Timetable checked: Lecture timetable reviewed on the website.
(Usually published late August for Autumn; January for Spring.)
Arrival timing: Plan to arrive 1–2 days before the semester begins.
Late arrival (if unavoidable): Arrive within the first 2 weeks of the semester.
