How to apply

Follow the instructions below to apply to Vilnius University as an exchange student. 

Get nominated by your home university

Before you apply, your home university coordinator must email a Nomination Letter - an official confirmation that your university has chosen you for the exchange - to the Vilnius University International Office at incoming@cr.vu.lt.

Check the application period

Apply online 

To apply as an Exchange or Free Mover student, submit your application online. Paper applications are not processed.

Required documents

Proof of English proficiency (minimum B2) 
A language certificate issued by your home institution or one of the following test results:  

  • IELTS: 5.5  
  • TOEFL iBT: 72  
  • TOEIC (Listening & Reading): 785 total  
  • Cambridge English Scale: 160  
  • CEFR: B2 or higher  

Transcript of Academic Records  
Provide from your home university covering the last two semesters.  
Note: 1st-year Master’s or PhD students may submit a copy of their Bachelor’s or Master’s diploma instead.  

Learning Agreement  
Duly signed by the home university and the student (compulsory for exchange students; use your home university’s form).  

Identity document:  
Passport copy (or ID card for EU citizens)

Recommendation letter (Free Mover applicants only)

Select courses for your study plan

You may choose courses across different faculties or align them with your home university study programme. Most courses should be from the faculty that nominated you.

Select courses according to your current study cycle:  

  • Bachelor’s students choose courses marked Bachelor in the Cycle field.  
  • Master’s students choose courses marked Master.  
  • Doctoral students may choose courses from all cycles.  

Courses at partner institutions   

  • Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre
  • Vilnius Academy of Arts 

The course lists for partner institutions and registration will open in September.  

Important when choosing partner-institution courses  

  • Ensure that course descriptions are available directly from the partner institution; Vilnius University cannot provide these descriptions.  
  • Credits and grades earned at partner institutions will be included in your VU Transcript of Academic Records.  

Free-moving students are not eligible to apply for courses offered by the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre or the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
