THE GHETTO | Mykolas Romeris University theatre play
*Pre-World Congress Program: Performances by Lithuanian University Theatres
THE GHETTO
Film performance in Lithuanian with English subtitles
Based on Joshua Sobol's play "The Ghetto"
Director Julius Dautartas
In 1941, a Jewish ghetto was established in Nazi-occupied Vilnius. It housed a unique theater, whose performances were watched not only by the ghetto residents, but also by the Nazis who imprisoned them and their collaborators. The student theater chose to revive the faces of those who were not allowed to live, which is why the Vilnius ghetto and its last days of existence became the creative inspiration for this film performance. Joshua Sobol's play "The Ghetto" tells a story based on true events - the life, hope, faith, desire to survive, love and create of the prisoners of the Vilnius ghetto. In 2014, the troupe created a performance based on the aforementioned play, and later the film "The Ghetto".
