Studies and Disability

Vilnius University is committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone in our community to study and work. If you’re a current or future student and have a disability — including mental health conditions, autism spectrum disorders, attention or learning difficulties — that might require some extra support during your studies, please fill out the form before the semester starts so we can reach out and assist you.

Accessibility of the Study Process

VU vidinis kiemas iš viršaus

Vilnius University offers the possibility to adapt the study process for students with disabilities or temporary health conditions. Individual adjustments may include adapting the study environment, learning materials, and assessment methods.

These adjustments are grouped into three areas:

  • Study environment (e.g., physical accessibility)
  • Lectures and in-person sessions
  • Assessment of academic achievements

Common solutions include: using larger fonts in assessments, extending exam time, providing materials in accessible formats, adjusting schedules based on classroom accessibility, and using assistive technologies.

We encourage students with disabilities to actively share their needs and inform us as early as possible — only through open dialogue can we ensure accessibility and create conditions for full, effective, and equal participation in the study process.

Inform Vilnius University about your disability and individual needs:

2

Meet with the Disability Coordinator.
During this meeting, it may be decided not to start the individualization process. If the process is initiated, the following steps will apply.

3

Provide documents confirming your disability and sign the consent form for personal data processing.

4

The Disability Coordinator prepares a recommendation to adapt the study process and sends it to your faculty.

5

A designated person in the faculty approves the plan for adapting studies based on your needs related to disability.
This plan is valid for the entire study period. The designated person also informs the relevant staff — lecturers and employees — about the plan.
