Community support scholarship

The community support scholarship is awarded to Vilnius University students in exceptional circumstances – death of a close relative, natural or other disaster, illness, sudden deterioration of financial situation, or similar circumstances. Its purpose is to provide one-time financial assistance to students facing unexpected difficulties.

Intended for students who have encountered exceptional circumstances:

Illness of a student or relative

Death of loved ones

Natural or other disaster

A sudden deterioration in the financial situation of the student or family.

Scholarship amount and payment procedure

Amount: The scholarship is one-off; its amount ranges from 2 to 15 basic social benefits (BSB). In exceptional cases, the commission for the award of a scholarship may decide to award a scholarship with an amount up to 35 BSB.

The BSB is set at EUR 74 as of January 2026.

How to apply: Applications are submitted via the Vilnius University information system (VU IS). Applications for the scholarship can be submitted at any time during the study period.

Payment: 
  • Awarded based on the student's application and documents proving special circumstances.
  • The decision is made by the scholarship award committee, consisting of students and representatives of the Study Administration Department.
  • Commission meetings and scholarship payments occur five times a year, in October, December, March, May, and June.
  • The scholarship is paid out after the committee's decision, and the information is posted on VU IS.

Is the scholarship paid regularly?

No, this scholarship is a one-time financial grant.

What documents are required?

Studentas, norintStudents wishing to receive a scholarship must submit an application via the VU information system and provide the following documents:

  • Certificate of family composition;
  • Income certificates (for the student and parents/guardians or spouse for the last 3 months) or a certificate of unemployment;
  • Additional documents supporting the circumstances (e.g., medical certificates, copy of death certificate, child's birth certificate, etc.).

(Note: income certificates are not required if the application is submitted due to the death of a relative.)

How will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship?

The decision is published in the VU information system, and the student is informed personally.
