The Rector's Team

The Vice-Rector, Pro-Rectors, and Chancellor lead the strategic management of Vilnius University. They deliver the University's mission, advancing studies, research, internationalisation, infrastructure, and community wellbeing. The leadership team coordinates institutional decision-making and represents Vilnius University nationally and internationally.

Vice-Rector, Vice-Rector for Science

Prof Dr (HP) Gintaras Valušis

Responsibilities:

  • Developing Vilnius University as an international centre of research excellence
  • Strengthening scientific research and internationalisation
  • Coordinating doctoral studies
  • Overseeing the University Library and Publishing House

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs

Dr Valdas Jaskūnas

In office since 1 September 2016
 

Responsibilities:

  • Quality and outcomes of studies and non-formal education
  • Development and financing of academic programmes
  • Internationalisation of studies and teacher training
  • Strengthening lecturers' educational competencies and recruiting academic staff
  • Academic counselling for students and attracting talented students
  • Representing the University in signing key academic documents and agreements

Vice-Rector for Partnerships

Dr Artūras Vasiliauskas

In office since 18 May 2020

Responsibilities:

  • Vilnius University's cooperation with state institutions, social partners, and educational institutions
  • Representing the University in national and international organisations and networks
  • Developing external relations, image, communication, and marketing
  • Strengthening alumni relations and coordinating alumni organisation activities
  • Partnerships with Lithuanian and international companies, institutions, and organisations

Pro-Rector for Organisational Development and Community Affairs

Prof Dr Vilmantė Pakalniškienė

In office since 1 December 2022

Responsibilities:

  • Fostering the University's academic and cultural traditions and strengthening community identity
  • Developing and implementing equal opportunities policies
  • Promoting Vilnius University's social mission, volunteer initiatives, and community wellbeing
  • Coordinating the University's leisure, support, and welfare services

Chancellor

Raimundas Balčiūnaitis

In office since 16 September 2021
 

Responsibilities:

Managing the University's finances and property, and ensuring internal order
Creating the material and organisational conditions for the activities of the Senate and Council
Signing court documents and concluding, amending, or terminating civil and employment contracts (except for resident managers)
Approving reports on EU structural support projects (2007–2013) following project completion
Ensuring the efficiency, quality, and results of central administration and non-academic departments
Attracting and implementing investment and operational projects
Managing information technology services and public procurement
