New Interdisciplinary PhD Programme at Vilnius University Will Explore How Innovations Are Developed, Regulated and Communicated

This year, the first interdisciplinary doctoral programme at Vilnius University is being introduced, developed through collaboration between the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Communication, and the Business School. The “Innovation Governance, Law & Communication” doctoral programme aims to foster an interdisciplinary research approach to innovation governance by integrating perspectives from law, communication, and organisational studies, while advancing new analytical approaches to the study of technological and societal transformations.
The PhD study programme is developed at a time when sectors worldwide are facing rapid technological change, increasing regulatory demands, and growing expectations for transparency and accountability. In this context, understanding how innovations are developed, regulated, and communicated is essential. “Innovation Governance, Law & Communication” analyses how institutions, technologies, and public discourses interact and how these processes can be governed in a reliable, ethical, and strategic manner.
The programme focuses on key challenges in innovation governance, including the regulation of technological and digital innovations and data law, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, and the formation of public and policy narratives in legislative processes.
The “Innovation Governance, Law & Communication” doctoral programme prepares researchers and highest-level practitioner-experts capable of generating new knowledge and applying it to address real-world challenges.
In 2026, the annual tuition fee for full-time studies is 6,764 euros, and for part-time studies, 4,509 euros. This fee structure allows students to obtain a high-level, interdisciplinary education at an affordable cost, without compromising academic quality or the international scope of the programme.
The programme is intended for applicants who hold a Master’s degree in law, communication, management, or related fields. As the studies are conducted in English, the programme is open to both Lithuanian and international students and provides favourable conditions for pursuing an international academic or expert-oriented career. Applications are open until 1 July.
