International “Biodiversity” Course for All Specialty Students

In the spring semester of 2022, Vilnius university (VU) together with other six Arqus Alliance universities is preparing an international course unit. The goal of the course unit is to train problem-oriented thinking while analyzing a currently hot topic of biodiversity.

VU is organizing two teams with six participants each to represent the University and the city of Vilnius in the activities of the programme, Winter school and Student-led forum.

The course will start with Winter school. It is a weeklong intensive activity, taking place in University of Granada*. During this week the participants will have an opportunity to attend keynote lectures by well-known European scientists, as well as participate in international discussions about the BIO-, GEO-, SOCIAL diversity. Six students from each of Arqus alliance universities will attend the event. Students representing VU will be selected from both formed teams.

During the spring semester participants will attend weekly meetings to discuss the project and to analyze the topics of biodiversity in the local, regional and global contexts.

The course will be closed with an event called Student-led Forum, taking place in University of Padua*. During the event students will present reports on the analyzed topics. Six students from each of Arqus alliance universities will attend the event. Students representing VU will be selected from both formed teams.

Participation in the programme will be awarded 5 ECTS credits according to an individual study plan.

Participants of this programme will gain experience in teamwork, data collection, analysis and presentation, as well as establish connections with students, lecturers and scientists from foreign universities.

Students of all fields of study can apply for the selected teams.**

*Meetings are planned to happen face-to-face. Expenses such as flights, housing and food are covered by the project funds.
**The activity is recommended for students in 2nd or 3rd year of bachelor studies, and for 1st year students in masters. Other requirements: fluent communication in spoken and written English language.
