Proving your language skills

Find out how to prove your language skills and when you may be exempt from submitting a language test. These language requirements apply to both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes at Vilnius University.

 

When you apply to Vilnius University, you must prove that your language skills meet the requirements of your chosen programme. On this page, you will find all accepted ways to demonstrate your language proficiency. 

Please note:

  • We do not accept statements from individual language teachers or internal university language test results. 
  • You cannot prove your language proficiency by combining different test reports or certificates. You must meet the minimum required scores for all components within a single official test report or certificate. 

Proving your language skills in English

The following language certificates are accepted for study programmes taught in English: IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 81+, Cambridge English Exam 176+, Pearson PTE Academic 59+, LanguageCert IESOL B2, Duolingo English Test 120+, Password Skills Plus 6.5+ or another language proficiency certificate equivalent to B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). British Council EnglishScore Certificates are not accepted.

Who doesn’t need an English test?

If you are a native speaker and/or the English language was the language of instruction in your previous studies, you will be exempt from providing an English language test score. 

Proving your language skills in Lithuanian

For admission to study programmes taught in Lithuanian, you need to demonstrate sufficient Lithuanian language proficiency. 

You should contact the Department of Lithuanian Studies at the Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University to register for a Lithuanian language proficiency test. If your level is not yet sufficient, you may take Lithuanian language courses for one semester or even a full year to reach the required level.

Who doesn’t need a Lithuanian test?

You are exempt from providing additional proof of Lithuanian language proficiency if you have passed the State Lithuanian language exam or you hold a B2 level certificate issued by a competent institution.

Proving your language skills in Russian

For study programmes taught in Russian: Russian language proficiency level C1. 

Who doesn’t need a Russian test?

If you are a native speaker and/or the Russian language was your language of instruction in your previous studies, you will be exempt from providing a Russian language test score.
