The Awards aim to raise the profile of VU and VU Press authors, and to promote the publication and dissemination of scholarly, educational, and popular science publications. The awards are annually presented for book sales in the previous calendar year, counting only books published in the last three years. The VU Press’s most read books in the VU Library are determined by calculating the frequency of issuance per available copy of a book.

Journal reading frequency is measured by four indicators: number of downloads of all journal articles in 2021, number of downloads per article, the number of citations for all journal articles in the last five years, as calculated by Dimensions, and number of citations per journal article according to Dimensions.
