For the 700th Birthday of Vilnius – Festive Events of Vilnius University

MicrosoftTeams imageVilnius University (VU) is an integral part of the city of Vilnius, which has helped and continues to help the city develop, improve and attract new inhabitants who come here to study and then put down roots. Therefore, For the 700th birthday of Vilnius, the Vilnius University community has prepared rich and interesting gifts for the city's inhabitants and guests.

Lecture series "Histories for the City and the World"

The Faculty of History of Vilnius University together with the National Museum of Lithuania is organising a series of lectures "Histories for the City and the World". With this joint project, museum workers bring into the light exhibits that often do not receive enough attention or visitors, while historians are surprised by topics that have been buried in the margins of history. This year's series is dedicated to the 700th birthday of Vilnius.

The lectures are broadcast live on 15min.lt and on the National Museum of Lithuania's Youtube account. The lectures can also be attended live in the hall of the National Museum of Lithuania, Arsenalo g. 3, 6 pm. Some of the lectures are translated into Lithuanian sign language.

Lumina Park at the VU Botanical Garden in Kairėnai

During the 2022-2023 dark season, the VU Botanical Garden in Kairėnai, for the 700th birthday of Vilnius,will host a new artistic, educational and entertaining programme of light installations, inviting visitors to embark on a journey of discovery. The exhibition features original works created by Lithuanian and Polish artists, which will introduce visitors not only to natural light sources, but also those created by man.

Lumina Parks are open in four Polish cities – Wroclaw, Poznań, Lublin and Bydgoszcz. In addition to Vilnius, this year a light installation park will be established in Budapest and Prague.

Exhibition dedicated to Vilnius at the P. Smuglevičius Hall of the VU Library

The exhibition, assembled by the VU Library, will introduce the public to the history of Vilnius City. The exhibition will showcase documents stored in the VU Library collections: rare prints, manuscripts, photographs, etc.

444th birthday of Vilnius University

The annual celebration of the VU's birthday in 2023 will mark the 444th anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, Vilnius University has prepared a number of fun and mind-expanding activities for the city's community - all of them related to Vilnius.

Theatrical tours of the VU Library

Vilnius University will invite residents and visitors of Vilnius City and the university community to meet the spaces and stories of Vilnius City and the Library.
