Kaunas Hosts Cybersecurity Competition; Winners Will be Awarded Cash Prizes
Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius University, considering the increasing need for cybersecurity competencies and information literacy in our country, will, for the second time in a row, host the international cyber security competition VU Cyberthon on 17-18 February. Competitors can register for the event in advance. By the end of January, 600 participants from more than ten countries around the world had already registered.
Asked why the youth would be interested in cybersecurity competition, one of the lecturers of the event, Dr. D. Dilijonas, Partnership Professor at Kaunas Faculty, said that any practical, playful experience helps to better consolidate theoretical knowledge, and this format is attractive because it gives the chance to take on the role of a righteous savior of the world, a geek, and to be a counterweight to political or other corruption.
In the first part of the event, guest lecturers will read thematic reports on vulnerabilities in web applications, information warfare, artificial intelligence, and share tips that may be relevant to both cybersecurity experts and everyday technology users. The second part will revolve around problem-solving. During the competition, IT professionals and amateurs will apply their knowledge in an attempt to overcome the cybersecurity challenges in information systems, computer networks, cryptography, intelligence, and other topics.
Local and international partners from business, academia and the public sector contribute to organizing the competition and coming up with challenges. The event hosts invite schoolchildren, students, and anyone interested in cybersecurity to test their strengths and deepen the competencies they have already acquired in the field of cybersecurity. The event aims to inspire and encourage its participants to independently analyze cyber security issues, develop critical thinking and creativity in overcoming cyber challenges.
This year’s presentations will also be broadcast online on Vilnius University’s Youtube account.
The event starts on 17 February at 9 AM, and the practical competition starts at 5 PM. Participants must register in the challenge system. They will have 24
hours to overcome the challenges.
The fastest participants with the largest amount of points will be awarded cash prizes.
