Vipashyana [Skt.], or awareness, threads the entire Buddhist path from beginning to end. In other words, it is the medium by which we wake up. We all possess awareness naturally, but at the same time it is cultivated through the sitting practice of meditation. Awareness arises from mindfulness, or the deliberate training of the mind to inhabit the present moment of experience. In this presentation, Mr. Karelis will describe mindfulness and awareness practice in the context of formal meditation as well as in the context of daily life, drawing on the traditional Vajrayana teachings.

Bill Karelis was born in 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts, in the US, and educated at Harvard College, from which he graduated with High Honors, Phi Betta Kappa, in 1969. He studiend for many years with great Tibetan meditation and scholars. He served on the faculty of the Ngedon School of Higher Learning within the Vajradhatu International Association of Buddhist churches and also on the faculty of the Nitartha Institute, and at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. He currently travels the world to present the traditional Buddhist teaches.
