Participants of “Hack4Vilnius” will enrich Vilnius with more innovations

Hack4vilnius2019 nugalėtojai,,Hack4Vilnius“, the 2nd hackathon for Vilnius city, was held on the 20 – 22th of September. Participants looked for innovative solutions for healthier, cleaner, smarter and more agile city. The hackathon finishing the row of “Innovation week” events lasted for 60 hours and was attended by 150 participants from business, universities, colleges and even schools.

While welcoming the participants the mayor of Vilnius city, as the patron of the event, emphasized, that open data in a transparent city is a source of opportunities for either the municipality, companies in town or every resident of the city. He also wished the participants creativity, success and international acknowledgment, similarly to the “GetPet” app, which won last year’s “Hack4Vilnius”event and got immense attention by “The Washington Post“, “The New York Times“,“MailOnline“ and other portals.

During the ,,Hack4Vilnius” event participants used open data on Vilnius city and solved the problems spotted by themselves and/or offered by Vilnius municipality and organizations in town. Hackathon teams were consulted by more than 20 mentors from “Trafi”, “Turto bankas”, “Susisiekimo paslaugos”, one of the leading accelerator in Israel “Inno-Nagev” and other companies. Hackathon teams offered a wide spectrum of ideas from environmental management, sharing of public spaces, promotion of democracy, platforms for volunteering, guiding apps for Vilnius city and other.

On the last day the winners were selected out of the 23 teams participating in the event. The main prize of 1 500 EUR, established by “Cognizant Technology Solutions Lithuania”, was won by the team called “Raindrop”. The team presented a prototype of the sensor, which measures soil moisture and sends the information to the database. This sensor providing data in real time can help greenery firms be more effective, while turning Vilnius into greener and more attractive city.

“Vilantis” team, presenting the app for testing the drivers’ skills and awarding the best drivers, won the tickets to the “Build Stuff 2019” conference. Team “Pasaka won the tickets provided by “Lux Express” for offering a platform “Mano Vilnius” that promotes democracy and allows the residents of Vilnius generate ideas together with Vilnius municipality. An “Amazon” cheque of 300 EUR, established by “Trafi”, was given to the team, which pithed the best mobility solution - public transport schedules received by SMS for those users, who do not use smartphones. “SpaceCam” team, which presented artificial intelligence solution for fighting vandalism, won a three-month membership for prototyping at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, established by “LinkMenų Fabrikas”. “Susitvarkom” team won a three-month membership at co-working space Work’inn for the platform that helps organization and handling garbage removal in Vilnius city. The team “Lituanica X” presented the solution for sharing games created by kids on the internet portals. For that “Lituanica X” was awarded the “Code Academy” prize.
