On 3 October, Vilnius University (VU) Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas met with the newly appointed Prime Minister, Inga Ruginienė. During the visit, the discussion focused on ensuring political continuity, strengthening cooperation, and exploring potential new initiatives.

VU is interested in contributing to the rational and evidence-based decisions of the 20th Government of the Republic of Lithuania. It is expected that not only the continuity of existing cooperation will be ensured, but also that the range of joint activities and initiatives will continue to grow.

At this challenging time for the country, the University feels a strong responsibility to contribute to the success of key national institutions by offering its intellectual resources, joining working groups, sharing research findings, and actively participating in essential public discussions.

The VU Rector shared his expectations and invited the Prime Minister to continue constructive and active dialogue in addressing national challenges.

He also expressed concern over the situation at the Ministry of Culture and emphasised the importance of hearing the voices of diverse professional communities. Both the cultural and the education and research communities form the foundation of these fields and of the country as a whole. The Government’s success depends on attentive listening and informed decision-making.
