Prof. A. Zukauskas Hosted a Meeting with Visiting Japanese Surgeons

October 14, 2019, Vilnius VU Rector Prof. A. Zukauskas hosted a meeting with visiting Japanese surgeons to discuss the future direction of their innovative collaborative agreement. The meeting was attended by Your Excellency Shiro Yamasaki, Ambassador to Japan, Prof. S. Satoi (Kansai Medical University), Prof. Y. Inohue (Tokyo Cancer Hospital), Prof. K. Strupas (Vilnius University) and Dr. A. Gulla (Vilnius University).

Prof. S. Satoi and Prof. Y. Inohue attended the Lithuanian Society of Surgeons held in Klaipeda, October 11-13th, 2019. During the society’s meeting, a special HPB Surgery International Session was held for the first time led by Prof. K. Strupas. Other world-renowned experts in HPB field such as Prof. P. Schemmer, University of Graz presented their data and led a robust discussion afterward.

Based on mutual universities initiative, creating and exchanging of medical studies, surgical research and clinical expertise has become a top priority for the next five years.

Collaboration between Vilnius University and Kansai Medical University started in 2018 when an academic excellence agreement was signed on October 10th, 2018 in Osaka, Japan. The agreement provides the possibility for exchange of medical studies programs, medical students short term clinical practice visits, research and surgical expertise between the two universities. This initiative is part of the department of surgery's efforts to foster international cooperation in the area of surgical research, clinical practices, and medical education.
