Professor V. Nekrošius of the VU Faculty of Law Has Been Elected President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences

Professor Vytautas Nekrošius of the Vilnius University (VU) Faculty of Law has been elected President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (LMA) for the 2026–2030 term.

“I will strive to ensure that the role of the Academy of Sciences in the life of our society and state continues to grow, and that the LAS is properly represented at both the national and international levels,” the professor states in his proposed LAS presidential program.

The President of the LAS is a person trusted by the academic community and the head of the institution, elected by the general assembly. The person holding this position is the initiator and leader of scientific processes and strategies, an authority in society and the state, and represents Lithuanian science and culture abroad.

Prof. V. Nekrošius acquired a Habilitated Doctor’s degree in 2003 and served two terms as Dean of the Law Faculty. The professor has scientific and expert experience gained while serving as a member of the Senate and Council of VU, as a member of the Praesidium of the LAS, and as chairman of the Social and Humanitarian Sciences Division of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
