E. Rabinovici 1

On the 4th of September, the 24th President of the CERN Council Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici will visit Vilnius University (VU). The physicist will meet with the Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas and the Pro-Rector for Research Prof. Edita Sužiedėliene, visit the VU Library, and give a public lecture at the Faculty of Physics.

With Prof. E. Rabinovici will also meet Prof. Ramūnas Aleksiejūnas, prof. Pranciškus Vita and the Ambassador of Israel. During the tour of the VU Library, the President of the CERN Council will visit the Hall of Franciszek Smuglewicz and the White Hall, where he will inspect rare prints and manuscripts. Later, the professor will proceed to the Faculty of Physics, where at 13:00, he will deliver a lecture titled "Particle Physics: Results, Challenges, and Magic" In this lecture, Prof. E. Rabinovici will discuss the quest for answers in science, address questions and results that have shaped the standard model of physics.

CERN (French: Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) is the European Organization for Nuclear Research, where physicists and engineers investigate the fundamental constituents of matter. It is the world's largest nuclear and particle physics laboratory, located in Switzerland, and home to the most complex and extensive particle accelerators. Since 2018, Lithuania has been an associate member of CERN.

Professor Eliezer Rabinovici is a theoretical physicist, and his research areas include high-energy physics and quantum field theory. He has made significant contributions to a deeper understanding of the standard model of physics, phase structure, and the perception of gravity phases. Throughout his career, Prof. E. Rabinovici has been involved in various boards and committees, serving as a member of the HEP-EPS Board (1996–2011), Chairman of the Israel SESAME Committee (since 1997), and Chairman of the Israel High-Energy Committee (2004–2020). In 2004, he was appointed as one of Israel's delegates to the CERN Council, where he served as Deputy Chairman from 2016 to 2018. In 2021, he was elected as the President of the CERN Council.
