The President of the Republic of Malta, Dr. George William Vella, visited Vilnius University

P3302890On February 28th, the President of the Republic of Malta, Dr. George William Vella, visited Vilnius University (VU) accompanied by a delegation. The President met with the VU Rector, Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas, and visited the VU Library, later proceeded to the VU Life Sciences Center.

Dr. G. W. Vella viewed rare prints and manuscripts at the VU Library and signed the guest book. He also visited the Church of St. John and admired the fresco “The Seasons” by Petras Repšys.

Subsequently, Dr. G. W. Vella visited the VU Life Sciences Center, where he met with Chairwoman of the VU Senate, Prof. Eglė Lastauskienė and VU Life Sciences Center scholars Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys and Dr. Urtė Neniškytė. Dr. Aurelija Žvirblienė guided the delegation through the Laboratory of Immunology and Cell Biology department at VU and provided insights into research on SARS-CoV-2, immunization strategies, and more.

Dr. George William Vella is a Maltese politician and, since 2019, has served as the tenth President of Malta. Previously, he was Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr. G. W. Vella studied at the Faculty of Chemistry and Surgery at the University of Malta, where he obtained his medical doctorate.
