The public lecture on Economism and East Asia Development

Sukurta: 25 October 2011

On October 27 Professor Kui-Wai Li of the City University of Hong Kong will give a lecture "Economism and East Asia Development" at the Faculty of Economics.

The role of the government, industrialization and changes in comparative advantages, a pro-growth attitude to development, economic openness, and domestic conditions are the five areas in the core elements of the 'economism' paradigm of development in East Asia. The discussion will also consider whether the paradigm has been challenged in the light of contemporary development, such as the Asian financial crisis in 197 and the financial crisis in 2008, the rise of the China economy, and the reversion of Hong Kong's political sovereignty to China.

The lecture will be delivered at 15.00 in the lecture room No 707 (Saulėtekio 9) in English.
