Registration for the traditional Vilnius University (VU) event “Student for a Day” has started. During the event, pupils will have an opportunity to step into students' shoes, experience how studies at the higher education institution are implemented, and learn more about the study programmes of interest to them.

The participants of the event are invited to attend lectures at 15 faculties, including those in Kaunas and Šiauliai, together with the students of VU. The “Student for a Day” will be held live and remotely, and lectures will also be organised for international students in English.

During the event, which will take place on 23–27 October, pupils will attend lectures, seminars, and special sessions. A pupil who becomes a student for a day will have an opportunity not only to visit VU and its faculties but also to discover new disciplines, enrich their knowledge, and find answers to their questions on selecting studies.

Each higher education institution differs in size, the location of studies, classrooms and buildings, as well as the number of students on a course. The entire study environment is an important part of the studying experience. VU units are located all over Vilnius, with some faculties situated in the old VU ensemble in the Old Town, others in Saulėtekis, and others still – on M. K. Čiurlionio Street and Naugarduko Street. Moreover, two units of Vilnius University are located in other cities, namely Šiauliai and Kaunas. As a student for a day, you will be able to decide whether you feel comfortable and at ease in these study environments and whether you like the atmosphere in the chosen faculty. If you are going to study at VU, you will know the locations of lectures even before your studies start, and after you start your studies, you will be more confident in navigating the VU environment.

Lecturers are the people you will have lots of interactions with during your studies, and they will help you acquire your education. Therefore, it is very important to establish a connection between the student and the lecturer. Events such as ‘Student for a Day’ provide an excellent opportunity to meet your future lecturers, get to know them a little, and freely ask any questions you have. Moreover, you will also be able to get a taste of the format of lectures and see how lectures at VU differ from classes at school.

Pupils who have previously participated in the “Student for a Day” activities emphasise that this experience gave them a better opportunity to learn more about the study programme of interest. By attending lectures and seminars, they had hands-on and practical experience of what their future studies looked like. Participants also say that the “Student for a Day” events helped them decide on exactly which study programme to choose.
