Learn about the structure of the study programme.

  • Having completed the Light Engineering programme, you will be ready to take on complex challenges that demand a solid grasp of physics, chemistry and mathematics. You will also gain practical insight into material synthesis and characterisation, the principles behind lasers, photovoltaic and light‑emitting devices, as well as hands‑on skills in programming, lighting design and standard laboratory procedures.
  • You will not just learn theory – you will be equipped to apply it in practice. By the time you graduate, you will have the technological expertise and engineering competencies needed in high‑tech industries.
Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher)

N.B. for non-EU/EFTA applicants: the gap since your completed secondary degree should not exceed five years.

The grades in Physics, Mathematics shall not be lower than 55 per cent of the maximum possible grade.

The candidates meeting the established criteria are invited to the motivational interview. During the interview, the candidate’s determination to study in the technology field study programme based on experimental works is evaluated. If the interview is evaluated negatively, the candidate is not admitted to the study programme.

Career prospects

When you complete the Light Engineering programme, you will be ready to build your career in the light technology industry, whether you choose to stay in Lithuania or explore opportunities abroad. If you decide to continue your academic journey, you can progress to Master’s or PhD studies, opening the door to advanced fields such as: laser physics and optical technology, laser technology, material science and semiconductor physics, as well as optoelectronic materials and technologies.

After graduating, you will have the opportunity to work in leading international light technology companies specialising in lasers, as well as in high‑tech businesses, research centres.

Hands-on research experience that changed everything

Aikaterini-Maria Gkouzi

 Alumna  from Greece

I had to engage in research, which led me to spectroscopy. I reached out to a professor, who introduced me to his colleagues in a lab where I worked for the next two years. This hands-on experience was invaluable, allowing me to see research work first-hand rather than just imagining it like most students. More importantly, I had the privilege of working with people who valued my contributions, believed in me and my potential, and treated me with respect.

From deep specialization to broad skills

Marijus Ambrozas

PhD student from Lithuania

This programme is really promising for both students and employers because of the wide diversity of skills it provides. It is nice that the programme allows the students to choose between the going deeper into one of specific optoelectronics field or gaining wider, but more basic all-around knowledge. The combination of practice and theory opens ways for both scientific and engineering work. The perspectives are high because Lithuania has a great light technology industry (especially lasers).

Ignas Dailidėnas

Unanswered questions in physics, the limits of humanity’s knowledge, and the extraordinary beauty of light – all of this has fascinated me for as long as I can remember and led me to the field in which Lithuania is at the forefront – lasers. These studies cover an exceptionally broad range of scientific fields and provide an excellent balance between theoretical and engineering knowledge – an ideal combination for mastering light as a tool for solving the problems of the future.
