Library sm

Library

All students of Vilnius University may to use the university library. Vilnius University Central Library is located in the central building of the old campus. There are libraries in each faculty as well. Lithuanian student card is necessary in order to use the library.

Central Library opening hours:

Monday–Friday  8.00–20.00
Saturday  9.00–16.00

The Library is closed on the last day of every month.

Opening hours of faculty libraries 

When you visit the Library do not forget

  • your reader’s card (student card). Please produce your reader’s card to the duty officer at the control desk and take a control slip.

Leaving the Library don’t forget

  • to return your control slip to the duty officer; the control slip has to be stamped by the Department you have visited.

Students may search the electronic or card catalogues and order publications in the Central Library Catalogues, ground floor, Room 3 (it is also possible to order publications via computer catalogue from any computerised workplace outside the Library).

Students may borrow books for home use for one month. This period may be prolonged up to three months. Academic books may be borrowed for one semester and the period may be prolonged up to the end of the academic year.

The last or the only copy of the book is not loaned for home use. The book can only be used in the reading room.

In case of the loss of a publication, the reader must return an equivalent publication or pay a tenfold sum.

Books must be returned by the date and time due. Users who fail to return a book by that date may incur a fine.

No further loans will be made to readers who have items that are overdue or with outstanding fines.

Copying at the library

The Library also offers services of copying, scanning, printing, recording of digital data on a floppy disc or a CD etc. More about copying services and prices

Reading rooms

It is also possible to study in the reading room in the library. As in all libraries the noise level must be kept to a minimum. It is not allowed to eat, drink or smoke in the library. Readers are allowed to bring in personal things only in transparent bags. Coats, jackets, cloaks briefcases, handbags must be left in the cloakroom;

Computer facilities

You may use internet in the General Reading Room and Internet Reading Room at Vilnius University Library. Each month Vilnius University students may use internet for 15 hours free of charge. Upon exceeding this limit, a reader can't access internet until the beginning of a new month. By this limitation library aims to provide equal access to workstations for all members of the Vilnius University community.

Students may also get access to Internet at the computer rooms at each faculty.

Book shop

The students may find the university book shop “Littera” in the M. K. Sarbievijus courtyard in the Old campus. Alongside the books for leisure, books by university teachers and professors, university souvenirs may be find there. Opening hours: 9.00 - 18.00 from Mondays to Fridays and 10.00-15.00 on Saturdays.
