Lithuanian Studies programme allows you to learn the Lithuanian language, to get acquainted with the linguistic situation, literature, culture, history, social and political life of Lithuania.
The programme is designed for:
Lithuanian diaspora youth (born and raised abroad, graduated from general education schools outside Lithuania);
Non-Lithuanian citizens living in Lithuania;
Citizens of foreign countries who are interested in Lithuania, its culture, literature and language.
You will be able to:
learn to analyse and evaluate linguistic, cultural and literary phenomena in a wider context;
learn about the development of Lithuanian society in a regional context;
master contemporary methods of research on linguistic, literary and sociocultural phenomena.
It is a flexible and open to the student’s interests study programme: you will be able to choose 25% of the subjects according to your interests in various fields. You can study language, literature and socio-cultural phenomena, choose subjects from other disciplines (politics, history, management, pedagogy, etc.), or study one of more than 20 languages.
Students will be able to learn Lithuanian either upon enrolment or in an advanced group.
apply knowledge and skills of understanding Lithuanian at B2 level (according to CEFR), as well as apply pragmatic and sociolinguistic competences
plan, organise, carry out and evaluate literary phenomena, languages or culture policy activities, both in Lithuania and abroad, by providing analysis and recommendations to stakeholders on literary, linguistic and/or cultural issues.
analyse and evaluate various socio-cultural phenomena of Lithuania and its‘ neighbouring countries – Lithuania's strategic partners – Latvia, Poland and Estonia in relation to socio-cultural phenomena in his/her own country and in the broader intercultural spheres of study and professional activity.

Who might be interested? Those who have graduated from non-Lithuanian general education schools: young people from the diaspora or citizens of other countries who are interested in Lithuanian studies.
The studies will be conducted in two languages: Lithuanian and English. The first four semesters (2 years) will be taught in English and the remaining four in Lithuanian. Lithuanian will be taught in a communicative approach, which means that Lithuanian will predominate, but English will also be used when necessary.
This programme will train Lithuanian studies specialists who will have a broad understanding of the specificity of Lithuanian studies, who will be able to approach, analyse and evaluate it from a cross-cultural perspective, and who will be able to take a leadership role in disseminating the achievements of Lithuanian culture, literature, and linguistics to the world.

What comes after?
Graduates will be able to pursue a wide range of activities. This will depend on your goals and preferences, as you can combine a background in Lithuanian studies with management, communication, pedagogy or other studies to create the career profile you want.
According to your plans you would be able to work in Lithuanian language schools, cultural centres, or you will be able to become a journalist writing about Lithuania, or you will be able to pursue activities related to tourism and cultural projects. Wherever a broad understanding of Lithuanian studies and intercultural competence is needed, you will be able to find career opportunities.
