The holder of a professional qualification as a doctor possesses: adequate knowledge of the sciences on which medicine is based and a good understanding of the scientific methods; a sufficient understanding of the structure, functions and behaviour of healthy and sick persons, as well as the relations between the state of health and the physical and social surroundings of a human being; and an adequate knowledge of the clinical disciplines and practices.

The programme suggests a solid foundation in medical science: deep knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and the fundamentals of scientific methods. It aims to equip students with clinical competencies — from patient history‑taking and diagnostic skills to physical, laboratory, and instrumental examinations, and preparing treatment plans. You will develope professional values: ethics, patient‑centred care, communication skills and a holistic understanding of human health within social and environmental contexts. The programme will ensure you are ready for further specialization (residency), research or a broad range of medical career paths.

  • After graduating you will become a competent, ethical and well‑equipped physician ready for real-world medical practice and further specialization. You will learn to take detailed medical histories, perform physical, laboratory, and instrumental examinations, assess mental status, diagnose diseases, and develop treatment plans. They acquire essential clinical skills as well as capabilities in scientific research, medical ethics, communication, and modern information technologies. You will learn to think critically, to make decisions independently, and work in multidisciplinary teams.
Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher)

The applicants must satisfy the following requirements to be considered for admission:

An applicant can take an examination only once per one application period.
Entrance examination fee: 200 EUR. IMPORTANT! Entrance examination fee must be paid at least 48h prior to the examination time and is not refundable!


• If the applicant has passed the following examinations no earlier than during the 2nd year before admission, the applicant may apply without taking the entrance examination, but must submit the results of one of the following tests (the results of tests remain valid for 2 years).
 

MCAT. Minimum score: 500
BMAT. Minimum score: section 1 and 2 – score 5, section 3 – score 3B
IMAT. Minimum score: 50
NEET. Minimum score 650
 

• If the applicant has one of the following school qualifications he/she may apply without taking the entrance examination:
 

o IB Diploma “International Baccalaureate”: Biology 5 (H level) and Chemistry 5 (H level)
o A level certificate “A levels”: Biology A and Chemistry A
o German certificate “Abitur”: Biology 12 points or 1-2 and Chemistry 12 points or 1-2
o Finish certificate “Ylioppilastutkintotodistus”: Biology Eximia cum laude approbatur (E, 6) and Chemistry Biology Eximia cum laude approbatur (E, 6)
o Swedish certificate “Examensbevis”: Biology B and Chemistry B (level 2)
o Spanish certificate “Titulo de Bachiller” accompanied by “Selectividad”: Biology 9 and Chemistry 9
o French certificate “Baccalaureat”: Biology 15 and Chemistry 15
 

• Applicants must have completed the Biology subject at school. The Natural Sciences subject is considered to be equivalent to the Biology subject. The entrance examination is mandatory.
 

• If the applicant has graduated in Biomedicine/Life Sciences/Health Sciences and has a diploma, he/she may have completed either the Biology or Chemistry/Physics subject at school. However, it is mandatory to provide documents about the education acquired in the field of Biomedicine/Life Sciences/Health Sciences. In such a case, MF will assess whether the applicant must additionally pass the entrance examination.
 

• If the applicant has completed Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics subjects, it shall be considered to be an advantage.
 

• Due to the differences in the education systems of different countries, the University reserves the right to individually assess the suitability of an applicant for the study programme if he/she does not meet all of the listed criteria.

N.B. for non-EU/EFTA applicants: the gap since your completed secondary degree should not exceed five years

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Lithuanian.

Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

Translation is considered to be official when it is bound together with the certified true copy of the original document and is confirmed by the translator’s signature. Documents issued in English, Lithuanian must be certified true copies and do not require translation.

Language requirements

English

The following language certificates are accepted for study programmes taught in English: IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 81+, Cambridge English Exam 176+, Pearson PTE Academic 59+, LanguageCert IESOL B2, Duolingo English Test 120+, Password Skills Plus 6.5+ or another language proficiency certificate equivalent to B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

If your first language is English and/or if you have a university degree in English, you will be exempt from providing an English language test score.

Other requirements

A motivation letter must be added to your application.

IMPORTANT All students studying either Medicine or Dentistry study pogramme will be required to take the Lithuanian Language course for 6 consecutive semesters. The Lithuanian Language course will be included in the schedule but will not be additionally charged. Students will be required to reach at least B2 level by the end of the course and obtain a certificate. Without the certificate students will not be allowed to continue their studies.
Alternatively, a student can submit a nationally acknowledged certificate proving B2 level in Lithuanian language, such tests are offered by NŠA National Agency for Education.
An applicant who is a Lithuanian citizen can apply for programmes taught in English, however, if admitted he/she will be required to continue the studies in English track until graduation with no possibility to transfer to a similar programme taught in Lithuanian. If an applicant is interested in programmes taught in Lithuanian language, he/she must apply via LAMA BPO platform.

In order to apply to Vilnius University, you must meet the general and programme-specific admission requirements, as well as the language proficiency requirements. Pay the application fee and submit your application

The application to the international bachelor's or integrated studies degree programmes must be submitted on apply.vu.lt

The application fee is 100 EUR per application. The invoice is paid after adding the programmes to the application. Application fee payments are accepted only through the Flywire payment platform.

An online application will be processed only after the application fee is collected and the application is submitted with all the required documents. All documents must be submitted before the application submission deadline; otherwise, the application is terminated.

Confirm the acceptance and pay the tuition fee

Your application will be assessed within 30 calendar days from the date all required documents are submitted (this period may be extended in specific cases).

Acceptance letters or rejection notifications will be sent via the online application system https://apply.vu.lt.

Students are obliged to confirm if they accept the study offer within 7 working days.

Students who are citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area countries and of other foreign countries, admitted to non-state-funded places in the first year of first-cycle and second-cycle studies through the University’s foreign student application system, must pay the annual tuition fee within 15 calendar days from the date of the offer to study.

Things to consider:

  • All international students have to apply for a visa, temporary residence permit or certificate of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania depending on their citizenship and the length of their studies at Vilnius University. 
  • If you require accommodation, you may apply for a dormitory via the application platform at apply.vu.lt. The task for accommodation appears after the tuition fee is paid and the final acceptance letter is received.

Career prospects

After graduating this study programme, you will be eligible to apply for a medical license and start residency training — leading to specialization in fields like internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, or many others. 

 You will be able to work in hospitals, clinics or other healthcare institutions, offering patient care and emergency medicine. Alternatively, you may join pharmaceutical or medical‑equipment companies, public health institutions, or pursue research and academic careers. If desired, you will be able to practice abroad: the degree from Vilnius University is widely recognised across the EU, facilitating mobility to other European countries.
