
Languages and Cultures of the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region
The MA programme Languages and Cultures of the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region invites you to deepen your expertise in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, or German – while broadening the perspective through comparative and cross-cultural study. You will explore socio-cultural developments that have shaped Eastern, Central and Northern Europe, engaging with cutting-edge topics such as migration and place, posthumanism and digital spaces, gender and family, and much more besides. Our innovative, experiential learning methods will help you engage with grammar, literature, cinema, and politics in unexpected ways, combining academic rigour with practical, applied skills. The flexible programme structure allows you to specialise in literary and cultural studies or (socio)linguistics – or design your own study path across fields. The programme also involves collaboration with similar programmes in the region.

- You will become familiar with the differences in socio-cultural processes and developments in the region. You will be able to interpret socio-cultural and/or linguistic phenomena independently, critically and creatively.
- Depending on the starting position, you will raise your competence in the language of your choice to B2-C2 level. We guarantee you an intercultural, interdisciplinary and international content

N. B. for non-EU/EFTA applicants: the gap since your completed Bachelor degree should not exceed five years.
If your qualification meets the requirements, you will receive an invitation for a motivational interview.
The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Lithuanian.
Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

English language proficiency (at least B2 level according to the CEFR), as demonstrated by passing one of the international examinations:
- IELTS score: 6+,
- TOEFL score: 500 (paper based) or 60+ (iBT Internet–based test
- Cambridge English exam: 173+,
- Pearson PTE Academic: 65+,
- LanguageCert IESOL B2,
- Duolingo English Test: 105+
Or other proof of English language proficiency at B2 level according to the CEFR.
If you are a native speaker and/or if the English language was the medium of instruction in your previous studies, you will be exempt from providing an English language test score.
Proficiency in the language of the chosen specialisation Danish/Norwegian/Swedish/Swedish/Finnish/German/Polish/Latvian/Lithuanian/Russian at least at B1 level according to the CEFR.

Tuition fee
Students who are citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area countries and of other foreign countries, admitted to non-state-funded places in the first year of first-cycle and second-cycle studies through the University’s foreign student application system, must pay the annual tuition fee within 15 calendar days from the date of the offer to study.
After the student pays the tuition fee, he receives the final acceptance letter. Then our International Relations Office provides the necessary information related to obtaining a temporary residence permit in Lithuania and sends a mediation letter to the student by e-mail (for non-EU citizens).
Application fee
The application fee is €100 per application. Each applicant can choose up to three programmes within one application.
Online applications will only be processed once the application fee has been paid.
Please note that the application fee is non-refundable. Make sure you read the admission requirements and deadlines carefully before submitting your application, as the fee cannot be refunded if you are found to be ineligible or miss a deadline.
