Can I apply without final graduation documents?
You can apply with your current grades if you are graduating:
in one of the member countries of the EU, EFTA or OECD.
in one of the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan or if you graduated from the IB Diploma programme or with a General Certificate of Education with A-level exams (this exemption does not apply to citizens of Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan).
In this case, instead of final graduation documents, you need to submit your most recent transcript of grades and a document from your school (for Bachelor’s students) or university (for Master’s students) stating your expected graduation date, completion of the programme, and the awarded qualification.
The final graduation documents must be submitted by August 20, with some exceptions. If you receive an offer of admission, an admissions officer will inform you about the deadline for uploading the final documents. In some cases, this deadline can also be extended upon a written request from the applicant.
What are the criteria for admission?
First of all, the admission office will check the documents you have submitted to ensure that they correspond to the reality of the situation, and if they are found to be forged, law enforcement authorities will be informed.
Then, it will be checked whether the applicant has paid the application fee. If approval is received, the process moves on to the assessment of the cover letter and grades. Grades are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Depending on which country the applicant is from. For example, the minimum admission criterion for an applicant from Bangladesh is at least a 3.5 GPA, for an applicant from Nigeria at least a C6, etc.
After this procedure, the selected candidates will be invited for a motivational interview.
Could the Admissions Office check my educational documents before I submit my application?
Documents required for the application may only be checked after you submit a application form in apply.vu.lt. and after paying application fee. In order to make sure that you are eligible to apply, you should check the general requirements for admission, country-specific requirements and study programme-specific requirements (these could be found at each programme description) and make sure that you meet all of them.
IELTS/ TOEFL required?
Applicants must provide an official English language certificate confirming at least B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
We accept the following certificates: IELTS Academic (6.5+), TOEFL iBT (81+), Cambridge English (176+), Pearson PTE Academic (59+), LanguageCert IESOL (B2), Duolingo English Test (120+), Password Skills Plus (6.5+), or another recognized certificate equivalent to at least B2 CEFR.
Applicants’ English language proficiency will also be assessed during the motivation interview.
Online Mathematics Placement Test
This requirement applies to applicants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
In addition to the standard application documents, applicants are required to take the Online Mathematics Placement Test (OMPT). The OMPT is an online admissions test used for international applicants. It can be taken remotely from anywhere in the world at a time convenient for you.
When registering for the test, select Vilnius University and the specific programme(s) you are applying to. Please note that the test must be scheduled several days in advance, as it may take up to 8 working days to receive your results.
Before submitting your application, please check the list of programmes that require the OMPT, click here.
You can register for the test on the official OMPT website.
Applications to the relevant programmes without a valid OMPT certificate will not be considered.
What happens after receiving acceptance letter?
Once a student is accepted, our international department sends them an email with all the information what they need to do next – basically what documents they need to get in order to come to Lithuania legally. What they (international students from non-EU, EEA, EFTA countries) usually need for coming to study in Lithuania is to get a temporary residence permit (in the Migration department, or in the agency called International House Vilnius (this agency has migration department officers working in their office).
A student also needs to pay tuition fee (the main rule is to pay the tuition fee for the first year of studies within 15 calendar days after the day a student receives an invitation to study). Then to get insurance at their home country, finnaly a student needs to find a place to live (if they were not offered a place at a dormitory, which actually happens rarely), open a bank account and arrive to the university to register.
You can find some more information here, but the student is always informed what they need to do and what they need to bring (documents for entering a country, valid passport, birth certificate, educational documents, etc.)
What to do if I am under 18 years old?
According to Lithuanian laws, a person under 18 years old cannot make legal contracts. However, there are not many contracts a student needs to sign in the beginning of their studies. What they actually need is:
- to open a bank account
- to sign accommodation documents
- to sign University documents
- to sign documents required when applying for temporary residence
Unfortunatelly, neither University, nor other insitutions provide legal guardianship for underaged students, but the issue is sloved with a relative who comes together with a child, signs all the papers, takes a look at a place where a student is going to live and then leaves. Usually parents/relavtives get Shengen visa.
How to get a place in a dormitory?
When you are filling in your application form, you need to indicate that you need a dormitory. After that you do not need to do anything extra. Most applicants are usually given the opportunity to live in a dormitory, but it is advisable to fill in the application form as soon as possible, indicating that you want to live in a dormitory.
You will receive an email to let you know if you have been granted a dormitory.
How to prepare for a motivational interview?
The study coordinator checks your motivation to study in your chosen study programme, so you have to be prepared to answer a series of questions about Why did you choose Vilnius University?; About the structure of the study programme?; How will the study contribute to your skills in your career? etc.
If you are applying to several study programmes, your motivation for studying will also be assessed separately, so you should be familiar with all the programmes you want to study in detail.
