Social scholarship

The Social scholarship provides financial support to students in later stages of their studies who face social or economic challenges. It aims to ensure equal opportunities for students continuing their academic journey.

Scholarship amount and payment procedure

Amount:
The scholarship is €200 per month.

Payment:

  • Awarded for the academic year (September–June) for first-cycle, second-cycle, integrated, and professional pedagogy students (except first-year students). The first scholarship payment will be made at the end of September.
  • For second-cycle and professional pedagogy students in their first year: awarded for the spring semester (February–June). First scholarship payment – at the end of February.

Selection periods:

  • Application deadline:
    • June 30 for most students.
    • January 15 for second-cycle and professional pedagogy students in their first year.

Scholarship award process:
Students must submit an application via the University information system (VU IS) and provide supporting documents (income certificates, family composition, proof of eligibility). Selection is based on social criteria. Results are communicated after evaluation by the scholarship commission.

Certificates suitable to be included to the application

Certificate of Income

Suitable documents:

  • Certificate of state social insurance from the SoDra;
  • Certificate of registration with the Lithuanian Employment Service;
  • Income declaration (if self-employed);
  • Certificate of income from the employer (if a student is not registered at SoDra and if applying for a community support grant)

Not suitable documents:

  • Certificate of benefits paid/not paid

Documents must be in English or Lithuanian.

Certificate of Family Composition

Suitable documents:

  • Certificate of personal data from the Centre of Registers;
  • Certificate of family composition from the municipality. If the student's siblings are to be included in the family, the certificate must be ordered in the name of one of the parents;
  • Certificate of family composition from the country of origin.

Not suitable documents:

  • Certificate of declaration of residence.

Other Documents

Suitable documents:

  • Death certificate (when applying because of the death of a relative or to prove orphan status);
  • Birth certificate (when the student has children);
  • Doctor's certificate (when applying for health problems).

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply if I already receive another permanent social support?

No, students cannot receive multiple permanent social supports.

What happens if I start receiving other financial aid?

You must notify the University within 5 working days; otherwise, you will need to return the funds.

Who decides on the scholarship?

A commission of 5 members: 3 University representatives and 2 student representatives.
