By studying in this programme, you will acquire in-depth fundamental knowledge of nanomaterials chemistry and practical research skills, enabling you to analyse data, make decisions under uncertainty, and develop innovations. A portion of the courses is delivered at the VU Business School. Research projects together with the Master’s thesis make up half of the programme, ensuring active engagement in advanced research. The programme prepares specialists capable of creating and developing new nanomaterial products and implementing entrepreneurial ideas in a competitive international market.

  • Conduct research and apply knowledge in practice. You will understand the context and future prospects of nanomaterials chemistry, conduct independent research, assess its reliability, and make informed decisions based on the research results.
  • Analyse and interpret data. You will critically evaluate scientific and business information, systematically analyse alternative solutions, and present research findings convincingly to both specialists and the general public.
  • Solve problems creatively. You will integrate knowledge of chemistry, technology, and business; generate original ideas for nanomaterial products; make innovative decisions in uncertain situations; lead interdisciplinary projects; and evaluate their validity.
  • Develop responsibly and share knowledge. You will work independently and in teams, take initiative and leadership, ensure safe practices in laboratories and industry, uphold professional and business ethics, continuously improve your competencies, and plan your career development.

Career prospects

Nanochemistry studies open the door to the world of high technologies, where new materials, processes, and future innovations are created. Upon graduation, you will be able to work as an expert in modern companies and research centres, developing solutions that will transform industry and everyday life.

Nanomaterials are widely used in medicine, electronics, energy, and environmental innovation. You may work with advanced polymers and composites, nanoparticles for drug delivery, sustainable energy technologies, environmental projects, or in quality-control and research functions.

If you aspire to an academic career, you may pursue doctoral studies and develop new technologies in universities, research institutes, or corporate R&D departments, contributing to the creation of new nanomaterials, product design, and industrial applications.

Knowledge in natural sciences and technology is also highly valued in the public sector, including innovation agencies, ministries, science and technology parks, and educational institutions, where analytical thinking, data evaluation skills, and contributions to national progress are essential.

The entrepreneurship knowledge you acquire will provide a solid foundation for an entrepreneurial career – you may join innovative start-ups, work in product development teams, or establish your own business in the nanomaterials chemistry, pharmaceutical, or life-science sectors.

Your competencies in nanomaterials chemistry and business development will enable you to contribute to national competitiveness, innovation policy, the advancement of health technologies, and key areas of economic diplomacy.
