Arqus EDU-CLIMA Webinar to Explore Climate Literacy Through Picture Books

Registration is open for the seventh webinar in the Arqus EDU-CLIMA series on climate change and sustainability. Titled “Wonders and Wanders: Ecocritical Dialogues with Picturebooks”, the webinar will take place on 25 June at 16:30 CEST and will be delivered by Dr Marnie Campagnaro from the University of Padua.
The webinar will explore how ecocritical dialogues in children’s literature can contribute to climate literacy and education. Focusing on picture books, the session will invite participants to reflect on their personal connections with nature and to consider how literature can support meaningful conversations about climate change, culture and the environment.
During the interactive session, participants will be introduced to the “Nature in Culture Matrix”, a tool designed to support ecocritical discussions around picture books. They will then work in groups to analyse selected picture books and position them within their own matrices. The results will be compared in a plenary discussion, helping to identify similarities and differences in participants’ interpretations and analytical choices.
The webinar will conclude with a reflection on how ecocritical dialogues with picture books can empower young readers, educators and researchers to engage more deeply with climate education.
The EDU-CLIMA webinar series is organised as part of EDU CLIMA, a bottom-up initiative funded by the Arqus Innovation Fund and coordinated by the University of Graz. It brings together six Arqus universities – the University of Granada, the University of Graz, the University of Minho, the University of Wrocław, the University of Padua and Leipzig University – and includes contributions from a guest speaker from the University of Minnesota.
All sessions in the EDU-CLIMA webinar series will be available afterwards on the Arqus YouTube channel.
