Arqus Expands Opportunities for Plurilingual and Intercultural Learning

The Arqus Plurilingual and Intercultural Hub continues to expand its opportunities and resources for language learning, plurilingualism and intercultural development across the Alliance. Two new dedicated spaces are now available on the Arqus website, bringing together structured learning opportunities and resources that support lifelong language and intercultural learning.

Plurilingualism and interculturality are important dimensions of the Arqus European University Alliance. Through the Hub, Arqus universities work together to strengthen the language skills of students and staff while creating opportunities for communication, learning and intercultural exchange.

One of these opportunities is the Arqus Plurilingualism Module, which enables students to develop their foreign language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of language, culture and language-learning strategies.

The module was first piloted during the 2024–25 academic year and expanded in 2025–26. Applications are now open for the 2026–27 academic year.

Designed as a fully online and self-paced programme, the module combines several approaches to language learning. Participants can begin learning a new language through an A1-level course, continue developing an existing language through activities such as the Arqus Café and tandem programmes, and explore theoretical perspectives on language and culture.

The five-month module comprises 150 academic hours, combining contact and individual work. Depending on their university, participants may receive 5 ECTS credits or an Arqus certificate of participation.

By combining structured learning with flexible activities, the module gives students an opportunity to integrate language learning into their academic experience while reflecting on their own linguistic and intercultural development.
