Arqus Joins International Debate on Sustainable University Alliances

Dorothy Kelly, Arqus Coordinator, took part in the international seminar “Universities in Alliance” on 4 September in Santander, Spain. The event was organised by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) in collaboration with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).

The seminar brought together representatives from universities and public institutions to discuss the present and future of university alliances and their impact at European, global and regional levels.

Discussions focused on key issues such as alliance governance, sustainability, funding models and the role of universities in innovation and regional development.

Dorothy Kelly contributed the perspective of Arqus as a European University Alliance, sharing the experience of its partner universities in developing new forms of academic cooperation and collaboration.

The seminar also explored the conditions needed for university alliances to remain sustainable, relevant and capable of contributing to economic development, social cohesion and a stronger higher education system.

Following the meeting, CRUE plans to develop a roadmap with recommendations for universities and the organisation itself.

Arqus’s participation in the seminar contributes to the wider exchange on how European University Alliances can strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and increase their impact across Europe.
