Arqus Learning Opportunity Explores the Future of Sustainable Housing

The Arqus Alliance is offering a new online micro-credential that explores sustainable modular housing from a multidisciplinary perspective, bringing together social, economic, environmental, architectural, engineering and digital approaches.

The programme examines how modular housing can respond to contemporary environmental and social challenges. Participants will explore topics including community participation, resource optimisation, environmental and social life cycle assessment, social inclusion, data-driven design, parametric modelling, artificial intelligence, off-site construction, modern construction methods, design for manufacture and assembly, urban integration and user-centred design.

The micro-credential provides participants with foundational tools for developing sustainable design and policy proposals. It also forms the first stage of a stackable learning pathway, which can be continued with a second, more practically oriented micro-credential.

The programme also considers the wider context in which sustainable housing is developed, including collaborative governance, public-private partnerships and sustainable financing. Other areas covered include the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on sustainable cities and communities and partnerships, social enterprises, smart-city initiatives, and the development of inclusive and resilient housing ecosystems.

Teaching takes place online and follows a student-centred approach. Interactive lectures are combined with problem-based learning, collaborative projects, online discussions, case studies and mentoring. Participants are assessed through individual reflection, group project work, online participation and a final presentation or portfolio.
