Musculoskeletal Research Scholarships Open for Master’s and Doctoral Study in Lyon

Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 has launched the MuSkLE Excellence Scholarships, offering outstanding Master’s and doctoral candidates the opportunity to join an advanced, research-intensive graduate programme in France.
The MuSkLE Graduate Programme (Musculo-Skeletal System, Locomotion, Exercise) provides interdisciplinary training focused on understanding the musculoskeletal system from the molecular to the integrative level. The programme examines the impact of physical exercise, particularly locomotor activity, on the musculoskeletal system in both physiological contexts, such as athletic performance and nutrition, and pathophysiological conditions, including osteoporosis, neuromuscular diseases, cancer, inflammatory rheumatism and ageing. Delivered entirely in English and embedded within internationally recognised research laboratories, the programme combines academic excellence with hands-on scientific training.
For the 2025–2026 academic year, the MuSkLE Excellence Scholarships at Master’s level are open to international applicants seeking admission to the first year (Master 1) or to specialised second-year (Master 2) tracks within the programme. The first application period runs from 17 December 2025 to 28 February 2026, and the second from 11 May to 14 June 2026. These scholarships provide a distinctive opportunity for talented students from the Arqus Alliance and beyond to engage in advanced study and research in life sciences, biomechanics, physiology and health sciences in France.
In addition, three Excellence PhD Scholarships will be awarded for the 2026–2029 doctoral cycle to highly qualified candidates pursuing interdisciplinary research projects focused on the musculoskeletal system. Applications will open on 23 January 2026 and close on 30 March 2026. Successful doctoral candidates will join dynamic research teams and contribute to innovative projects at the intersection of exercise science, health and translational research.
