In the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, Vilnius University (VU) ranks 465th globally, maintaining its position as the highest-ranked higher education institution in Lithuania. This year, QS evaluated nearly 9,000 universities from 106 countries, with 1,504 institutions included in the final rankings.
VU’s strongest performance was recorded in the Employment Outcomes indicator, where the university ranks 107th in the world, placing it among the top-performing universities globally. This indicator reflects a university’s ability to prepare graduates for the labour market and to educate alumni who go on to make a meaningful impact in their professional fields.
Another area of strength is the Faculty Student Ratio indicator, in which VU ranks 275th globally. This measure is associated with teaching quality and the opportunities students have to receive more individual attention from academic staff throughout their studies.
VU also performs strongly in Sustainability, ranking 322nd worldwide. This indicator assesses universities’ social and environmental impact, their contribution to societal well-being, and their commitment to building a more sustainable future.
The university continues to strengthen its international research profile. In the International Research Network indicator, VU ranks 337th globally, improving by 14 positions compared to the previous year. This measure evaluates the scale of research collaboration, the diversity of research partners, and the strength of long-term international research connections.
One of the most notable improvements this year was achieved in the Employer Reputation indicator. VU climbed 96 positions, reaching 400th place globally. This result reflects growing employer confidence in the competencies, skills, and professional preparedness of VU graduates.
VU remains the leading university in Lithuania. Among the five Lithuanian institutions included in the QS World University Rankings 2027, it ranks first overall and leads nationally in most of the key indicators, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Employment Outcomes, Faculty Student Ratio, International Research Network, and Sustainability.
The QS World University Rankings assess universities using nine indicators: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Faculty Student Ratio, Employment Outcomes, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, International Research Network, and Sustainability.
