Regina Kuizinaitė-Karbauskienė (1924–2013) was born in the village of Dryžai, Šilalė Rural District, into a family of farmers. In 1943, she graduated from Šilalė Gymnasium. From 1943 to 1944, Kuizinaitė-Karbauskienė worked as a junior accountant at the Šilalė Agricultural Cooperative Office, and in 1945, she was employed at the Šilalė Rural District Tax Inspection Office. That same year, she applied to study at the Biology Department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Vilnius State University and was admitted. However, in 1948, she was expelled by the Order of the Rector on the grounds of “failing to report to work.” According to the database “Lithuanians in Siberia”, Kuizinaitė-Karbauskienė was deported to Krasnoyarsk in 1948 and returned on 30 June 1956. After receiving permission, her parents and sisters were exiled to the Irkutsk Region, where she relocated around 1950.
