Senate

The Senate of Vilnius University is a collegiate governing and decision-making body of Vilnius University.

The Senate shall ensure the freedom of culture, research, and teaching at the University, collegial discussion of general academic affairs of the University and of other issues of direct relevance for the entire University community and adoption of by-laws necessary for their implementation; it shall supervise that the activity of both the Council and the Rector, proposals submitted by the community to the Rector and to the University organisational structures as well as any other initiatives are in conformity with the mission, objectives, tasks and principles and the general academic interests of the University.

The Senate consists of 46 members and serves a four-year term: 36 members are from University academic staff, 9 – University students' representatives and the Rector, who is a Senate member by the position (ex officio).

The current composition of the Senate started its activity on 1 July 2022.
