The Senate of Vilnius University is a collegial decision-making body that ensures freedom of culture, science, research, and teaching at the University. The Senate considers general academic issues, adopts necessary legislation, and oversees the alignment of the initiatives of the Council, the Rector, and the community with the University's mission, goals, and academic principles.
The Senate consists of forty-six members who serve a four-year term: thirty-six members are representatives of the University’s academic staff, nine are representatives of the University’s students, and the Rector is a member of the Senate ex officio. The current composition of the Senate has been in office since 1 July 2022.
