Vytautas Stonis (b. 1925) was born in Toliotai Village, Endriejavas Rural District, Kretinga County. For two years from 1940, he studied at Švėkšna Gymnasium; due to financial difficulties, he transferred to Plungė Economic School, where he studied until 1946. He was a member of the Plungė city “Žalgiris” basketball team. On 29 July 1946, he applied and was admitted to study at the Trade Department of the Faculty of Economics of Vilnius State University. In September 1948, by Rector’s Order No. 582, Vytautas Stonis was removed from the student lists without specifying a reason. According to the testimony of his relatives, Vytautas was expelled for being a child of kulaks; his father Benediktas and sister Kazimiera (Kazytė) were exiled to Irkutsk Region. Records of the Lithuanian Special Archives show that Vytautas Stonis was also meant to be exiled but was spared due to working as a teacher in Plungė.
