The popular science magazine Spectrum of Vilnius University launched in 2004 and has fascinated readers with informative texts and colorful illustrations by young Lithuanian talents since. To celebrate the birthday of Vilnius University, the most beautiful illustrations will be exhibited in the Great Courtyard of the Central Palace (Universiteto str. 3). Don’t miss the opportunity to see how Spectrum magazine has changed over the years! The exhibition will run from 31 March to 31 May.
This year, the VU community's Talent Evening, which has become a tradition, is joining the university's birthday events marathon! All members of the VU community who are creative, love dancing, singing, or have other talents are invited to participate in the competition and fill in the registration form by March 21!
The Memory Diploma of Vilnius University was established six years ago, and the public ceremony of awarding it is a part of the “Recovering Memory” initiative based on historical research. It aims to assess the impact of totalitarian regimes on the VU community, discover the victims, and return them symbolically to the university community. On the 1st of April at 3 p.m. in the Theater hall, 27 former members will be honored with Memory Diplomas.
On the 1st of April at 6 p.m., the day of the 443rd anniversary of Vilnius University, a science communication competition, “Science Sprint,” will be held in the event space “Pavilionas” (Pylimo St. 21B). Teams consisting of one lecturer and one student will have 3 minutes to present the research or the science idea that fascinates them. Public speaking training awaits all entrants to the competition, and cash prizes will be awarded to the best teams.
The first printed Lithuanian book - “Catechism” by Martynas Mažvydas - will be on display on the 1st of April in Franciszek Smuglewicz Hall of Vilnius University Library. A tradition one day in a year to show the original copy of the book to a large part of the public offers an excellent opportunity to get to know better this significant part of our cultural heritage. “Catechism” by Martynas Mažvydas will be on display on the 1st of April from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Franciszek Smuglewicz Hall of Vilnius University Library.
On the 2nd of April, all members and guests of the university community are invited to participate in an orienteering game dedicated to Vilnius University's birthday. Participants will search for objects or spaces related to the University in Vilnius for 2 or 4 hours. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know the history of the University and the history of Vilnius city while walking or running. The event will start at 12 noon in the Grand Courtyard of Vilnius University (Universiteto str. 3).
